Course Objectives

  • Understand the biological principles of alveolar ridge preservation and why it is critical for long-term restorative planning.

  • Learn step-by-step techniques for atraumatic extractions and socket grafting.

  • Explore material options, including bone grafts, PTFE membranes, and sutures, and how to choose the right combination for different cases.

  • Identify common complications—such as membrane exposure or graft failure—and strategies for prevention and management.

  • Gain protocols for flap design and closure to support both hard- and soft-tissue healing.

  • Develop workflows to integrate ridge preservation into daily practice for predictable and efficient outcomes.

Course Overview

Preserving the alveolar ridge following tooth extraction is essential for maintaining bone volume and soft tissue contours, particularly when planning for future implant placement. In this TBS Virtual Clinic, Dr. Jay Reznick will review evidence-based protocols for ridge preservation, from atraumatic extraction techniques to socket grafting and membrane use.

The session will emphasize surgical decision-making, material selection, and complication management to ensure predictable outcomes. Attendees will gain practical insights into handling anatomical variations, minimizing resorption, and supporting soft tissue healing to create optimal conditions for restorative success.
